What's the difference between a "Catholic Bible" and a "Protestant Bible"? Catholic and Protestant Bibles both include 27 books in the New Testament. Protestant Bibles have only 39 books in the Old Testament, however, while Catholic Bibles have 46. The seven additional books included in Catholic Bibles are Tobit, Judith, 1st and 2nd Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. These books are called the deuterocanonical books. The Catholic Church considers these books to be inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Why is the Paschal Candle replaced each year? The reasons for a new Paschal Candle each year are both practical and liturgical. The candle is used not only during Easter, but also for baptisms, marriages, and funerals throughout the year. Most churches actually buy multiple candles as they are simply used up during the course of the year. In addition, each candle is typically marked to indicate the liturgical year, thus making them out-of-date the following year.
